Arabia Denies It Will Allow US To Use Its Bases For
Iraq
On December
30th 2002, responding to the New York Times Exclusive,
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal stated
at a press conference "The truth is what I said, not
what the newspaper reported." He explained that "Even
if the Security Council issues a unanimous decision
to attack Iraq, we hope a chance will be given to the
Arab states to find a political solution to this issue,"
Prince Abdul-Rahman
bin Abdul-Aziz, Saudi Arabia's Deputy Deputy Defense
Minister, confirmed the Foreign Minister's statement,
saying "We have no commitments on any matters toward
Iraq," Prince Abdul-Rahman was quoted as saying by the
daily Okaz.
The New
York Times did not report Prince Saudi's press conference,
the published report of Prince Abdul-Rahman or any other
Saudi official that contradicted its exclusive.
