Saudi Arabia Denies It Will Allow US To Use Its Bases For Iraq

On December 30th 2002, responding to the New York Times Exclusive, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal stated at a press conference "The truth is what I said, not what the newspaper reported." He explained that "Even if the Security Council issues a unanimous decision to attack Iraq, we hope a chance will be given to the Arab states to find a political solution to this issue,"

Prince Abdul-Rahman bin Abdul-Aziz, Saudi Arabia's Deputy Deputy Defense Minister, confirmed the Foreign Minister's statement, saying "We have no commitments on any matters toward Iraq," Prince Abdul-Rahman was quoted as saying by the daily Okaz.

The New York Times did not report Prince Saudi's press conference, the published report of Prince Abdul-Rahman or any other Saudi official that contradicted its exclusive.
