The Annals Of Unsolved Crimes

Jack The Ripper:

Two Theories

June 11, 2010

by Edward Jay Epstein

There is virtually no evidence in this case. The theories have been advanced  include:

1. The Neighborhood Theory. The police believed the Ripper was a local Whitechapel resident. His ability to vanish after each killings suggested to them that he was familiar with the area. But As the local population was heavily transient and used aliases, they were unable to identify him.
 2. The Royal Theory.  Some later authors speculated that the serial killer was a member of the royal family, Prince Albert Victor.  The only basis given is rumors, and, as it turns out, Prince Prince Albert had alibis that would preclude him as a suspect.
