Russia
Denies It Spies for CIA in North Korea
On January
20, 2003, Russia denied the story. The Foreign Intelligence
Service said that the report in The New York Times about
a deal between the two intelligence agencies "does not
correspond to reality" and added " some forces in the
United States have deliberately fabricated this publication
at a time when Russia is making intense efforts to help
defuse the tension around North Korea's nuclear program."
The New York Times did not respond to this charge of
publishing disinformation— or explain why the CIA would
to rely on Russia, and turn over to its intelligence
service sensitive sources and methods, when other US
allies, such as Norway, have embassies and missions
in North Korea.
