that have been advanced in this case include:
1.The Conferacy Theory. According to military
commission appointed by President Grant, the high command
of the Confederacy, headed by Jefferson Davis, authorized
Booth to assassinate President Lincoln.
2.
The Hijacked Conspiracy Theory. A group headed
by Booth planned to kidnap Lincoln. When that plot
failed because Lincoln changed his schedule, Booth, without
obtaining authorization from the Confederacy, hijacked the
group into supporting his assassination of Lincoln and attempted
assassinations of Secretary of State Seward and Secretary
of War Stanton.
